Blogging: Part 1

After 13 months of blogging, I have had exposure to various aspects of the blogosphere and have decided to write a series of posts on blogging for beginners.


Why Blog?
Why write? Some do it because they love writing, some for the social part of being in an online community, some for the money, while others do it for a little bit of all. But the biggest question is - what does it do for you? Would you want to write posts on a regular basis for month after month, year after year? The reason for most blogs dying prematurely is that would-be bloggers jump on the bandwagon, following the fad when it was "hot" and then quitting as soon as they got bored.

Looking for a blog host?
So now that you've decided you're a blogger, which blogging platform to use? Most go to the free blogging platforms like blogger.com or wordpress.com. Some spend a little bit of money and get their own domain name (e.g.: www.kikisrants.com). In any case, if you want to shop around before you decide, try going to blogger forums and read/ask around on the matter.

2) Authority Blogger

These are by no means the only blogger forums out there, though. Look around, ask Google-tan.

Before you start writing
Think about your niche (i.e.: what is it that you want to write about).

Join online communities related to your niche - join forums, comment on other related blogs/websites etc. Try participating in blogging forums/communities too.

Work on your layout - starting a blog is just like introducing yourself to a new community or starting a new business - try to make a good first impression - it counts!
