One Year On

Through Eyes From Afar is now one year into its existence. 39638 visitors later from 6 continents and 131 countries, this blog has traveled quite a distance away from its original intent as an archive of things I do on the internet and images from my past travels.

I would like to thank all readers for their continued visits (nearly 200 a day) to this blog, especially top five commentators MKL, Obsidian, Manju, Shingo T and kevinlmw.

At the age of one year, a blog would have emerged from its infancy to childhood. And it has been quite a journey.

Through Eyes From Afar has, over the past year,

provided first hand coverage of an anime convention,

become a regular contributor at Japansoc and Japundit,

Japundit

become a frequent participant in Japansoc's Blog Matsuris,

published detailed articles and image galleries on various themes, the most popular being:

Posts on this blog on the latter part of this year will feature more heavily my own life and travel observations, while still being very much a part of Japansoc's Blog Matsuris.

Mother's Day

I wish every mother out there a Happy Mother's Day! My pictures from Naminara Republic Island in Korea illustrates her roles:

Mother is the most important person for the father and child(ren)

Mother is a wife

Mother is at once a daughter-in-law and a parent

Notes on
Mother's Day: Celebrated on the 9th of May (today) in most countries.

Naminara Republic:
Naminara Republic is an imaginary country on a tiny half-moon shaped island located in South Korea, formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐) in 1944.
Its name originated from General Nami (남이장군), who died after being falsely accused of treason.
It declared itself a self-governing country in 2006 as acceding to General Nami's natural greatness of soul and has its own passport, currency, stamp and telephone card.
The Naminara Republic is famous for being the filming location of Korean love drama Winter Sonata (겨울연가).
